·(Ancient Rome)The geography of Rome was very helpful to those living in the ancient city. The hills and mountains surrounding the city made it difficult for outside invaders and enemies to invade the city. The hills served as a great outer defense system! The city also produced fertile and delicious crops. This happened because of the fertile soil and the cool rushing river running through the city. This river was also known as the Tiber River, this river flowed from Central Italy through Rome then emptied itself into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Rome later discovered more geographic advantages such as that Rome was the center of a peninsula that juts out into the Mediterranean Sea or modern day Italy.
·(Ancient Greece) The geography of Greece is mostly small islands. From a plane or space it looks like a ton of crushed pieces of land spread over water. Greece is mostly peninsulas because no part of Greece is far from water such as the Aegan Sea or the Mediterranean Sea. Other than peninsulas and water lots of Greece is mountains or very small patches of farmland. Also the ground here isn’t as fertile as Rome’s land for only about 50% of Greece’s soil is good for planting crops.
Compare and contrast:
·Only 50% of Ancient Greece’s land is good for planting crops while Ancient Rome’s is almost 80% is good for planting.
·They both are mostly surrounded by mountains an hills.
